A Brave Duckling

A Brave Duckling

Once upon a time, there was a duckling. It was the sweetest of all its seven siblings. As is usually the case, after they grow a bit and learn to walk, it’s time for an adventure.

Following their mother, they set off to the nearest stream. Mother Duck jumped into the stream and called the ducklings to come swim with her. One by one, the ducklings jumped into the stream and swam towards their mother.

It was time for our last duckling, but he got scared. His mother was an example of bravery, hoping he would learn to swim, but the duckling simply couldn’t overcome the fear that gripped him when he saw the water.

Despite a whole day’s lesson and conversation, he couldn’t overcome his fear, but his mother had patience and understanding, so they postponed the swimming lesson for another time.

Mother Duck spoke to Father Duck, expressing her concern for the youngest duckling because he was afraid to swim.

Father Duck said he would devote himself to the youngest duckling to make the big task of learning to swim easier for him. Even though the father went with him, it wasn’t successful. The fear of the unknown and the depth made the duckling uneasy.

But the father, full of understanding, told the youngest duckling: “It’s okay to be scared, but don’t give up. Every small step contributes to success.”

The next morning dawned, and the duckling went for a walk. He had seen many times how his siblings swam in the lake. Meanwhile, he would stay by the water, waiting for them to finish swimming so they could play with him.

This time it was different. In the distance, he heard someone calling for help - it was his oldest brother.

Without thinking, the duckling jumped into the lake and pulled his brother out of the water. “Thank you, brother, you were very brave, I didn’t know you had it in you.” the oldest duckling gratefully said. “You overcame your fear, and because of that, I didn’t get hurt!” said the proud older duckling. “I ran to help you, I didn’t even think about the fear.” replied the duckling. “I overcame my fear!” - said the youngest duckling.

On the way back to the nest, the young duckling realized that fear had been holding him back all along.

His love for saving his brother was stronger than anything else. Today, the duckling walks fearlessly into the world because he knows that in a few days he will fly high and finally discover what this world has to offer.

The End.
